“Mean Mary” James, is back to WAM Fest and we couldn’t be more delighted. This amazing and versatile artist with a pleasing sense of humor and th ability to engage the audience in silly and serious interaction. A Florida native now based in Nashville, Mary plays americana, bluegrass, blues, and folk music plus her own original work. She may yodel or howl like a wolf or coyote and have you answering her calls. Besides a guitar, she plays a banjo, keyboard and fiddle.
Mean Mary got the nickname at a young age. She learned to read music before she could read words and was an official singer/songwriter before she had started her first day of kindergarten. With the help of her mom, she wrote her theme song “Mean Mary from Alabam’.” That moniker has stayed with Mary since then, And NO, she is anything but mean.
